Hello @Denis , we are working on building a UMH cluster with a Custom namespace, we are getting some errors with respect to the some pods like KafkaBridge and Grafana, which go into a CrashLoop and Backoff error, what would be an ideal and reliable way to change the namespace and repository urls in the yaml and other config files? We would like to implement Git features with this custom helm chart as well
j
We designed the UMH at the moment that it requires the namespace "united-manufacturing-hub" and release name "united-manufacturing-hub". if you want to use something different, you probably would need to adjust all secret names as well as all service names (as they are all hardcoded to start with united-manufacturing-hub)
the git feature sounds intersting! What are you planning to do with it?

Hi @Jermuk Any emphasis on the what file names need to be edited/ configured? I'm assuming the template directory for the services, followed by chart.yaml and index.yaml file? want create a helm repository with the modified settings and push it to Github
j
you could search for united-manufacturing-hub and replace it with your namespace / release names
may I ask what the reasoning is to change the namespace?
why not leave it at united-manufacturing-hub
i am curious
s
Hi @Jermuk, we are trying to build our own custom solution for our prospects, who would not prefer a generic opensource name template that is available for everyone.
Where do I perform this search and replace @Jermuk ?
j
you would probably need to adjust the helm chart, so download it, go through all the templates and replace it. be aware, that using this you have to maintain the stack on your own as you forked the project and every update we need to publish you would need to implement on your own and double check with your changes.

So in home/.cache/helm/repository/ there are three files umh.tgz, umh_chart.txt, and umh_index.yaml, if I change the namespace in chart and index files followed by umh.tgz --> templates --> each service --> metadata: name: {{include "united-manufacturing-hub.fullname" .}}-factoryinput it should work right? Also in .config/helm/repository.yaml
and values.yaml
and Chart.yaml

Hi @Jermuk, what happens to the files in deployment folder, the directory previous to this? Can I do the changes just on this chart as exactly stated on the above link or do I have download the whole repo, make the changes and upload to my server?
Hi @Jermuk azureuser@MushroomIoT-Vm:~$ sudo helm install mushroom-iot-hub mushroom-iot-hub/mushroom-iot-hub -n mushroom-iot-hub Error: INSTALLATION FAILED: template: mushroom-iot-hub/templates/timescaledb/secrets.yaml:21:10: executing "mushroom-iot-hub/templates/timescaledb/secrets.yaml" at : error calling include: template: no template "mushroom-iot-hub.fullname" associated with template "gotpl" this is the error i got

to be honest, i think in my opinion that it does not make sense to do that type of changes: - You will divert from the main UMH channel, so you cannot use any updates that we publish. - you will need to modify all existing tutorials, and basically can only leverage a small portion of learn.umh.app - there is no option for any type of enterprise support from our side - there will be additional bugs caused by changing the system, and nobody in the community will be able to help (as they will be using the main UMH) I think if you want to go that road, you are kind of on your own. I can try to help whereever I can, but I can not promise it
for example: i dont know what is causing these error messages as I dont have the full code
